Amesbury, and its nearby UN World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, has been confirmed as the longest continuous settlement in the United Kingdom. We can only trace our history back to the 1860s, but except for a brief hibernation in the mid 1960s, the band has been a regular provider of music at local community events held within our small, but historic, Wiltshire town. We are a non-contesting band. We play just for the enjoyment of playing brass band music at local events such as fetes, fairs, concerts and service dinners. We provide a comprehensive variety of music, ideal for such functions, including light orchestral pieces, music from the stage, marches and musical standards, as well as a few challenging modern pieces. Our musicians are all local enthusiasts from various walks of life, many of them learning their skills with the Band. Its current strength is approximately 30 and includes a thriving learners' section. New members of any age or musical ability are always welcome. We can provide instruments and tuition free to members. Our only qualification is that you enjoy playing music. What's the Italian Connection ? La Banda "Angelo Bodini", from Casalbuttano, a small town near Cremona in Lombardy, made an historic visit to our Band in August 2005. That small beginning led to more exchange trips, each one growing in enjoyment, and producing some wonderful memories and experiences for all concerned. Because we are a non-profit making organization, our fees are very modest and designed primarily to cover expenses. Having said that, we pride ourselves in providing a professional performance that always enhances any event. Our standard playing fees are: Concerts and Fetes - £200.00.
Small Group When the full main band would be inappropriate for an event we can provide a smaller group of players. Contact the secretary for more information.
All players are always warmly welcomed, but like all bands, we will always need the usual suspects to help out existing players. Contact our secretary for more details. See us on:
